National Science Foundation Awards Potomac Photonics, Inc. a Phase I SBIR Grant to develop Energy Storage, Electrical Distribution, and Packaging for Wireless Sensor Networks, December 7, 2009.

Potomac Photonics, Inc. today announced that its MesoSystems group has been awarded a $149,926 Small Business Innovation Research Phase I Grant to develop advanced interconnect, power, signal processing and packaging concepts for wireless sensor network nodes. Potomac will team with advanced battery manufacturer FlexEl, Inc. to produce wireless sensor platforms with flexible form factors that are significantly smaller than current commercial offerings. Application areas are diverse and include healthcare, structural monitoring, and process control.

Principal Investigator Paul Christensen characterized the project as one that capitalizes on Potomac’s extensive experience in miniaturization to open new commercial applications for wireless sensing and mesoscale sensing systems.
