Potomac Photonics announces that Mike Adelstein has been promoted to the position of President and CEO of the company.
Lanham, MD – The Board of Directors of Potomac Photonics Inc. has announced that Mike Adelstein has been promoted to President and CEO effective December 2010. He will succeed Lori Beer, who will transition to the position of Chief Business Development Officer, with a focus on technology advancement and commercialization. He will also remain a member of the Board of Directors.

According to Larry O’Donnell, Potomac’s Chairman of the Board, “We are all very optimistic about these changes and very much encouraged by the willingness of Mike and Lori to lead Potomac in the new direction.”

Mike Adelstein, a 14 year veteran of PPI, will be tasked with leading the company in a new direction, evolving Potomac into a virtual-based microfabrication foundry. Building upon their many years of experience in laser-based microfabrication, the focus will be on bringing their customers easy access to a broad range of cost-effective micro-manufacturing services (such as additive technologies, replication and mechanical CNC based processes) from prototyping to production.

A graduate of the University of Maryland, Baltimore County with a degree in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Mike Adelstein also has a MS in Technology Management and is a Certified Public Account (CPA).

Potomac Photonics Now Offers Embedded Conductive Lines forMicro Products in Polyimide and Ceramic
Potomac Photonics is pleased to announce that it is introducing a new additive (deposition) process to its fabrication toolbox. With the ability to achieve feature sizes as small as 8 microns, this process is configured to embed materials such as silver and select nano-pastes into flat and 3D micro-products. Implantable devices, miniature electronics, and novel energy sources are all areas that will benefit from this technology. Initially, this process has been optimized for polyimide and select ceramic substrates, with additional materials to be added in the future.

A software controlled technology that interfaces with CAD/CAM files, our process is easily adaptable to small batches and cost competitive high volume production applications. Combined with our industry leading microfabrication and assembly processes, Potomac is truly a one-stop shop for manufacturing micro-products.

“By adding this technology, Potomac continues to expand its capabilities and provide its customers with more complete prototyping and production solutions,” commented Mike Davis, Director of Operations.

Employee Spotlight
Forever young Lori Beer (wearing vest on right) just celebrated his birthday on December 14th with other alumni from Bates College at Kennedy Peak. The group climbed 1400 feet vertical to the Peak (2700′ above sea level). The hike was 9 miles and it took 5 1/2 hours. Way to go Lori!

Travel
We have been very busy the last few months attending meetings and visiting with our customers. Some of our highlights include:

  • 2010 Medical Electronics Symposium at ASU
  • National Institutes of Health
  • Mid-Atlantic Nano-Micro Alliance meeting at JHU
  • IMAPS Microelectronics conference
  • The American Society for Cell Biology

We also joined the Tech Council of Maryland and have attended several events related to Government grants and Biotech opportunities.
